Below-average crop condition in China and average condition in its adjacent areas during early-August, 2017

China

Spring wheat was at harvesting period. Overall, crop condition was average.

Single-season rice was at heading stage while late rice was at tillering period. Affected by heavy rainfall and low radiation, single-season rice situation was below average in eastern Inner Mongolia and western Northeastern China. Overall, late rice was average condition.

Spring maize was at silking to ripening period while summer maize was at jointing period. Spring maize condition was below average in eastern Inner Mongolia due to drought but generally above average in other places in Northeast China. Summer maize condition was overall average.

Soybean was at flowering stage. Altogether, crop situation was average.

Neighboring areas

Overall, crops condition in adjacent regions of China was average. Due to late monsoon season compared with normal year, crops development was delayed in South of Himalayas. In contrast, above-average crop condition occurred in northern India, Pakistan and Myanmar.
