Slightly above-average China crop conditions during mid-July, 2018

The July (07/12/2018-07/27/2018) monitoring period covers the growing season of spring Maize, summer Maize, Soybean and single Rice. The NDVI MODIS TERRA departures from the past 5-year average map show that the crop conditions were slightly above average almost entire country. While above average crop conditions were observed in Yunnan, Hebei, Shanxi, Ningxia and Gansu provinces, Inner Mongolia, Anhui and, southern of Guangdong, Guangxi, and Hainan showed below five years average crop condition.

The spring Maize was characterized by the Tasseling stage in the Northeast China while summer Maize at North China Plain was at jointing stage. During this period, the soybean was characterized by the stage of flowering in the Northeast China while in the provinces of Anhui, Jiangsu, and Henan, the soybean was at third leaf formation stage. Similar to maize and Soybean, the single rice also was in growing stage in most of the central and south regions. In general, the crop conditions during the monitoring period were favorable.
